Heading even further north this week, it’s my pleasure to introduce Natasha from Orewa, proving that New Zealand is well served by yoga teachers, no matter where you live.
Like a few of our teachers, she caught the bug early, attending her first class at 14.
It makes me wonder what can of change we could create if yoga become part of the high school PE curriculum…
Natasha sounds and looks as sunny as the Far North – ah the gory of living in the sun year round!
1. What style of yoga do you practice and where do you teach?
I teach at YOGA OREWA, Orewa – North Auckland.
2. How did you come to yoga?
At 14 I started a night class at school… I loved it, it made me feel balanced and happy. I was the youngest in the class, as everyone else was around 30 plus!
3. When did the yoga bug really get you?
At 14! when I started. The teacher whom was 72 then took me under her “Yoga wing” and invited me to come to workshops and retreats. There was no charge, she treated me like a granddaughter and I started to really feel inspired by “it all”.
4. How has yoga transformed your life?
It has helped in so many ways from self healing of injuries, to deepening my understanding of the the human anatomy physically and energetically. It has taught me to breathe correctly and deeply.
Mostly to become more happy and aware of who I am and what I am!
5. What is your home practice like?
I have a 2 year old and so home practice has been more fun and playful with him, trying to allow him some growth. My studio is mainly home to practice!
6. When people ask you, “What is Yoga?”, what do you say?
An energetic, mindful and healing practice reaching all corners of your being. It’s bringing you wholeness and santosha.
7. What can people expect from one of your classes?
Dynamic and Flowing – aimed at beginners – aimed at reaching your potential on all levels!
8. What do you love most about teaching yoga?
I absolutely love transformation, watching the growth happen and seeing the inspiration in students’ eyes as they “get it”!
9. What do you wish everybody knew about yoga?
You don’t need to be anything to start Yoga – Yourself is enough and the rest will follow.
10. What role do you see yoga playing in our world?
Well the big question to me, how can Yoga change our world? So far if I think of all the millions partaking in regular classes, they are on some level making that change… as the change starts in your own heart.
I sing to my son… a lot and it reminds me of how life is so simple and precious .. being a mother means you give a lot .. so Yoga has helped me to understand how to be in balance and how to be calm in the wheel of our mad world.
12.And finally, how do people find you?
